Quick and dirty water recipe for travel.

OK maybe having the word dirty in the subject wasn't the best choice.
I will be in Utah for a bit at Snowbird. I can't find the water details but I know the water has high mineral content. I think I saw somewhere that it was TDS of 500 but I could not find a detailed water report since I think the resort is the only consumer of water and they measure use in acre feet
So if it is in fact 500 and I am only making aeropress and using their kettle, will 2/3 distilled and 1/3 tap get me good water or do I need to bring my potassium bicarb? I hate bringing a white powder on a plane since I know my bags get checked with the hand grinder in there.
Thoughts? anyone able to find a water report for Snowbird, UT?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Does your resort have their own well? If they get their water from Snowbird's Little Cottonwood Canyon Utility there is a consumer confidence report that shows a much lower TDS: http://www.canyonwater.com/otherfiles/SA3%20ccr2021.pdf - - about 120 - 180 ppm which should be fine as-is.LBIespresso wrote:I will be in Utah for a bit at Snowbird. Even If the TDS is actually 500 ppm high I see no harm in trying it with aeropress. If it's high in calcium carbonate then you can expect the hardness and alkalinity to drop due to limescale precipitation from boiling. If it still tastes off then you can dilute it with purified or with a soft bottled water.
If you want to use plain bicarbonate while travelling you don't need to pack the white powder - just buy a box of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) at your destination's grocery. For a recipe that uses 100 mg of potassium bicarb you will get the same bicarbonate by using 84 mg of sodium bicarbonate.

Thanks so much Pat! I really appreciate it!!!
The resort property is a watershed and part of National Forrest. They average 50 feet of snow there a year and that is just "in season" snowfall. So for a state experiencing drought conditions and suffering from climate change, that canyon is blessed with more than it's fair share of precipitation.
The water comes out of the tap with a decent amount of air in it. When you get a glass from the tap it's clouded with bubbles and then settles clear. It does taste good but I always imagined it was pretty hard water. The kettles and humidifiers sure make me think that.
Either way, your advice has me prepared. You're the best.
