Looks like it does a good job of breaking up some clumps and grooming without compacting. They only make it in 58mm so I'm thinking of making something similar for La Spaz baskets.
That price is a real deal breaker if I had 58mm portafilter

My million dollar idea (only in my head of course) is to have stand with portafilter forks that would vibrate enough to settle the grinds in the basket.
Anyone have a million dollars? LOL

I actually experimented with this using a small vibration motor. The grounds bed always looked very nice but the pours were awful, most likely due to particle stratification caused by the vibrations. That's not to say the whole idea is shot, you could experiment with different frequencies, timing, pulsing, etcslipchuck wrote:My million dollar idea (only in my head of course) is to have stand with portafilter forks that would vibrate enough to settle the grinds in the basket.

I bought one of these dental vibrators off Amazon some years ago, from a tip in "Modernist Cuisine". The results were comically bad.

Yes, when different sized particles are shaken the larger particles of the mix ens up on the surface.dominico wrote:I actually experimented with this using a small vibration motor. The phenomenon is also known as the muesli effect or Brazil nut effect.

I can't recommend highly enough, the Londinium distribution tool. It is amazing and I've been WDTing for years with every implement you can imagine... both bought and homemade. The wires are so thing but are also hardened so they are springy without distorting like softer metals.

I'm using some thin and sharp pointed surgical tweezers, works well enough for me to not look any further.
