I recently purchased an IMS shower screen for my Simonelli Oscar 1. However I find there is more chanelling when using it than with the stock one. Am I missing something?

This kind of "puckology" is seldom revealing of channeling, at least on better machines. There is a huge rush of water out of the basket when the three-way valve opens. Many times the defects seen are due to that rather than something during extraction.

If your water flow without a basket in place is relatively even, the screen is probably doing a good job. Sometimes these screens can be made to look better visually by rotating them a tiny bit so inlet holes in the dispersion block don't align with the holes in the screen. I can't say that doing so makes the coffee any better.
