It seems I can't push the needle deep enough from either end of the wdt. Great if any advice from you. Thanks.

If that's the one I saw on Thingiverse before, I think the needles go the other way around... Put the pointy end through the holes in the threaded lower "cap" and then when you screw that part into the handle, it captures the thicker "handle" part of the needle within the handle of the WDT tool...
