It doesn't matter how hard you tamp as you'll never reach the force 9 bar will reach.

I've used stock baskets, VSTs, and LM Stradas for many years now, having gotten in to this craft about 15 years ago, and have tried flat, convex (various curves) and c-flat tamper bases with all of them. Rippled tamper bases never made sense to me, and I just see the ripples as an invitation for channeling, so I've never bought one. My favorite combo is a flat 58.5mm tamper base with an LM Strada 17g basket for most coffees. That said, occasionally, I'll find a coffee where I like a VST basket better, but I haven't reached for a stock basket or a curved tamper in several years.
