No, more like a sweet pork flavor. Seems I found that animalic note that Luca mentioned in another thread.

I roasted another batch today, dropping the pre-heat to 260 C instead of 275 C in my Bullet and I feel that I had the roast much more under control this time with normal milestones for full yellow (still hard to judge with these yellowish greens) and first crack. I stayed out of second crack and have higher hopes for this batch; we'll see.

Wow..
I recall trying a limited release Liberica from India years ago, apparently from some old trees. It was completely wild, and one of the most difficult beans to roast. Reading your comments about meatiness.. yes, it was actually kind of like a mix of roast, fruit, and salami (roasty notes from the beans that got away). This was around 9-10 years ago, holy cow

How'd it taste? Fruit and salami?NH wrote:Natural processed. Just got a kilo to try it out. Sent out small ~30g packs today to a bunch of homies of the 3 different roasts. We tend to be a little slapdick in our labeling & tracking, as you can see. Sure is fun to muck about though!image
One interesting piece was the labeling on the bag I got; it said it was a 2021 harvest, but when I asked about it I got this:
"All the Liberica coffees are 2022 crop, the 2021 crop are all long gone last year. The Liberica coffees are fresh crop all year long as there are big & small harvest harvest throughout the year. "

I recall some natural sumatra coffee that had watermelon on it.. so.. all we're missing is one with cheese notes, and then we can compile the charcuterie blend?
Nice alternative to the pb&j blends I'm seeing with the brazil + fruity natural that seem popular these days
Sorry to take this off topic!

Hey Chris, this doesn't sound very tasty, but I call it "barnyard and bubble gum". I really liked it, but def. not for everyone. Definite tobacco leaf as well, which I like. My Mom was a thumbs down on it. I had some other feedback on it on Twitter which was way longer and more descriptive, but I can't seem to find it. Upshot: They liked it, a lot.
Through hard work, victory!

[edit] Was replying to Yakster but managed to miss the "reply" button somehow.
Lemme know! Am planning on ordering more and seeing if I can dial it in. Just took delivery of a Cormorant, so this time all the mistakes will be mine instead of my buddy's.

Not unheard of with liberica: Liberica coffee from Sweet Maria'sjedovaty wrote:all we're missing is one with cheese notes
I can definitely relate to both barnyard and meatiness as well. Unlike some arabica with unorthodox processesing, the low acidity in liberica can make it pretty straightforward to pull espresso with, for even more intense flavors.

Thanks for the update. I've been enjoying the roasting challenge and interesting flavors.NH wrote:Hey Chris, this doesn't sound very tasty, but I call it "barnyard and bubble gum".
