I just went through my 30lb order of Costa Rica Tarrazu Cafetalas De Dota that a lot of you have recommend. It was a great coffee to roast into medium and use it in a cappuccino. The dry aromas were full of caramel and a pleasant hazelnut and marshmallow in milk can be picked up.

Anything else out there for sale right now that's similar that I can pick up to roast for myself and family that you guys would recommend?

Although it's not too similar to the Costa Rica, this one from Royal is worth a look:

My first two roasts have been pretty true to their tasting notes. Great sweetness, and surprisingly fruity for a washed coffee, but also nice chocolate notes if you develop it a bit further, just like the Costa Rica.

Thanks,

Looks like Sweet Maria's updated their offerings and this Guatemala Huehuetenango looks interesting as well. I'll probably try this out first since it's cheaper than a Royal Coffee offering.

Jev,

This is where SM shines above others. Use their flavor wheel first and then compare the body on the cupping wheel. Before I get into the example, please everyone reading this, if could email SM and ask them to join the Artisan.Plus collaboration as they have lots of data and it takes a long time to input it. Especially if you place an order, emailing them after is a great time.

Look at your DeDota.

There other CR isn't the same so I moved on to Peru and found two of them to consider.

Peru choices Second one is less on the cocoa though.

I have a bit of the Finca Rosma from their earlier lot. I have also had it in past years. It is a classic Huehuetenango coffee from Guatemala. Different from the Costa Rican that I found was magical in blends for milk drinks but somewhat bland as a stand alone. The Finca Rosma is a stand alone SO coffee that follows Thom's taste notes. I was tempted to get more but I am swamped in coffee. I would have tried the one that Brad recommended but I just got some Ecuador Juan Pena Tasha that is a chocolate fudge bomb with lime and sugary sweetness. It's wonderful too if that might tempt you. The Rosma will certainly be a crowd pleaser.

Yeah the flavor wheels are helpful. I'm very surprised to see the Rosma to be sold out already! Glad I snagged some to try...
These are primarily for milk drinks but might try a smaller lighter roast of the Rosma as well I guess if you guys recommend it.

@GC7 Have you tried the Ecuador Juan Pena Tasha in milk? I found it on captains coffee if that's the one you're referencing.

The Ecuador Taisha (Sorry for previous misspelling) is a huge very sweet chocolate fudge bomb with upfront acidity that distinctly distinguishes it from low grown coffees. I have not tried it as yet directly with milk, however, if your tastes allow milk drinks to have a bit of "tang" to them this one will suit you well. I roasted it to full city and I believe that level suits this coffee. I think it will be outstanding blended with the Brazil Legender. I don't have that one roasted right now so it will wait. I am extremely pleased with the Taisha as an SO espresso and brewed. I'd think the CJ Peru would suit your needs as well. Enjoy whatever you select.

I ended up buying the Rosma which sold out in less than a day surprisingly. Haven't tried it for espresso/milk yet.

They just updated their listing as well.

I'm getting 10lbs of:
Guatemala Antigua Pulcal Yellow Bourbon
and 5lbs of:
Nicaragua Finca Los Alpes

Also the last Kenya:

Kenya Nyeri Karindundu Peaberry

Just roasted a few pounds of Nicaragua Finca Los Alpes. I kid you not the roasted beans smell like brownie or peanut butter chocolate protein powder. Should be very interesting in a milk drink after some rest I will report back.
