Wiring conversion for GIEMMA RL3 to GICAR RL30/4ESS/F

This is to verify the fact that the GICAR RL30/4ESS/F Boiler auto refill controller is a direct replacement for the no longer available GIEMMA RL3 Sonde Boiler auto refill controller, and to simplify the operation of converting the Giemma RL3 Sonde to the GICAR RL30/4ESS/F. Below I have the wiring conversion laid out to to simplify things a bit. Owners of older Pasquini Livia 90s, Bezzera BZ99s, and some Isomacs should find this helpful.

P.S. I tried to do a proper table with cells and rows but could not get it to work. So, this was the best I could do.

The Bezzera BZ 99, Pasquini Livia 90 use two interchanable boiler refill controllers. The prong configuration is only different on the last 4 pins. The first 5 pins are in row 1 and the last 4 pins are in row 2 on the GIEMMA. Just move over the the first 5 wires from the GIEMMA onto the first 5 pins on the GICAR, and then move the last 4 wires from row 2 on the GIEMMA onto the last 4 pins on row 1 on the GICAR. Leave one space between the first 5 pins and the last 4 pins (pin 6).

GIEMMA RL3 (9 pins used total in 2 rows of 10. Pin numbers are not marked. 2 Rows of 10 pin slots twenty pin slots total. I refer to row 1 pin slots as 1-10 and row 2 pin slots as 11-20)

1. 115V = Main Supply = Heater/Light Relay (pin slot 1)
2. N = Neutral = R1/R2 Relays (pin slot 2)
3. Livello = Level = Fill Valve Relay (pin slot 3)
4. Pompa = Pump (pin slot 4)
5. Sicurezza = Safety = Brew Valve Relay (pin slot 5)
6. Empty (pin slot 16)
7. Sonda Sicurezza Serbatoio = Serb = Reservoir Safety Sensor (pin slot 17)
8. Sonda Di Livello = Level Sensor or Auto Level sensor (normally max level) (pin slot 18)
9. Sonde Sicurezza Di Minimo = Safety Sensor Minimum (pin slot 19)
10. Massa = Chassis Ground (pin slot 20 )



GICAR RL30/4ESS/F (9 pins used in total in 1 row. 2 rows of 10 pin slots, 20 total. First row of 10 pin slots are marked. Second row of pin slots are unmarked and empty)

1. Main Supply = Heater/Light Relay (pin slot 1)
2. Comune = AC Neutral = R1/R2 Relays (pin slot 2)
3. Ev. Caricamento = Fill Valve Relay = Auto Fill Valve Solinoid (pin slot 3)
4. Pompa = Pump = Brew Valve for Pump (pin slot 4)
5. Teleruttore SIC = Brew Valve Safety Relay (pin slot 5)
6. Empty (pin slot 6)
7. SRIS = Reservoir Safety Sensor (pin slot 7)
8. SLIV = High Level Sensor or Auto Level sensor max (pin slot 8)
9. Smin = Low Level Sensor or Auto Level sensor min (pin slot 9)
10. Ground (pin slot 10)

Minor note for anyone following this excellent post -- I just noticed that Lance's picture above is the version of the RL30/4ESS/F with a 230V main supply (codice 9.1.24.20G). I think he probably meant to picture the version of that Gicar that takes a 120V supply (also is called a RL30/4ESS/F, and looks identical other than specifying a 120V mains voltage, and has ref code 9.1.24.21 or 9.1.24.21G)
