Hi
Can anyone advise me about a problem please?
The Rancilio Silvia is pumping water fine and running shots but after I switch off the shot switch, some water is dripping out of the overflow behind the group head. i.e. a spoon or two of water drips out of the overflow after I stop the shot stop running water through the group head). (Is it almost the same as if I am backflushing?)
NOTE: I have tried cleaning the solenoid and I have also replaced the solenoid and electrics for it with a spare, but this does not solve the problem.
Any thoughts? I am fine with spattering and fixing stuff, especially this beautiful machine which I have had for four years.

Water exits from the solenoid into and over the edge of the drip tray after every shot. (Unfortunately, people don't realize this until their frame starts rusting.)

It sounds like your water is dribbling out. Have you cleaned out the Jet breaker? (part #28 in the diagram)

Thank you for your input...
True, the frame is rusting like crazy and this problem became apparent after taking all the tinware off and I have just rust converted all the rotting base metal and back plate metal.
Does the Jet Breaker have a valve or something? I have tried cleaning it but I have not taken it apart as such.

I haven't taken a jet breaker apart, but I just looked at a couple spares that I have, and I think there is just some plastic baffling inside. If you remove the jet breaker from the solenoid, then you should be able to easily blow air through the jet breaker. If there is any resistance, then a soaking/flushing or two in Cafiza or similar should help free up the coffee residue that probably has accumulated.

Sorry to hear about the rust on your Silvia. The story goes that the Silvia was originally a gift for Rancilio distributors. Thus, maintenance tasks that would be standard bar practice like removing and cleaning the drip tray at the end of the day - and leaving the tray out to dry overnight - were seemingly just assumed. You'll see a hole in the frame directly under the jet breaker. That hole is there so that any residual drips from the jet breaker wouldn't pool on the frame when the drip tray was removed. How home users were to know all that before YouTube maintenance videos ....

Hi
Overflow pipe is doing what you say and said 'hole' in base is apparent...
So what we have discovered is that I was worrying about a 'non-problem' because my Rancilio is supposed to drip water from the overflow following a shot!

I am so impressed with this lovely little machine in that I have replaced and worked on it a few times and it is so 'workable on.'
Now it is rust-proofed again and lives to tell more awesome days of coffee.

Thank you for your help.
