Hey guys,

Thanks for the additional info. I also have a fluid-o-tech pump which will get pulled apart to see if there are any differences compared to the procon.

Our local supplier did find a bearing that was listed as being from a manufacturer in Italy. They didn't have any of them in the country (Oz) and didn't know if they could still get it from overseas.

What? do they actually do when they reco a pump. Do they infact replace liner, vanes, and mechanical seal? Or do they just clean it out, replace worn/seized bearing and that's it? It would be great to get a definitive answer on that. We don't have any places in Oz that offer that service (I admit that info is on heresay).

The last one I pulled apart, the mechanical seal was like new so could definitely use it again.

Yeah I guess the price of a reco pump in the States is cheap. I also have around 15 machines that will need an exchange pump at some stage, so I am definitely going on a tight budget. $180 new is hard on a tight budget and sending to the States is not really on option. So I guess saving money is the motivation, and if I get a longer service life out of it due to using a better bearing then I have everything to gain.

Cheers.

Then why not get FIRST HAND information and call the Procon distributor in Australia in the link I previously provided. Procon USA was not hesitant in the least bit on bearing information.

Furthermore, another link I provided to a US rebuilder states what they do to the units received. Now I agree that they do not detail exactly what parts are replaced but any reputable rebuilder of mechanical equipment has a specific minimum list of replaced parts. All it takes is a phonecall.

Ok, back again

So, I have used the link by erics to a local guy who does the overhaul (in fact they are also the distributors of the procon in our local market). The cost over here is AUD$133.00 plus GST (10%). They replace the guts of the pump if it is required, pressure test it and then offer a guarantee as well.

They are not willing to sell the 'inner' bits of the pump. To get the bits, you need to set yourself up as a factory accredited repairer, and was told it would be "too much paperwork". Well it seems that the market is very well stitched up, as it must add hansomely to their bottom line.

Well I have forged ahead regardless, as I want answers on whether or not it is possible. You guys probably think I'm nuts..
