Since it is six months old, it should still be under warranty, so it might be prudent NOT to open it up any more than you might to clean the burr set. It does sound like a faulty switch or connection, or even a more serious electrical problem (like in a control board if there is one in your machine) that is likely to be intermittent and recur. Unless you are real knowledgeable on diagnosing and fixing grinders and other electromechanical coffee gadgets, you may want to have it checked and repaired under warranty...but of course it's up to you.

[edit]...and if when you open far enough to clean the burrs you find that they were have found the likely culprit and shouldn't have the problem again if you clean regularly.
