I opt for preventative rather than repair maintenance.

After five years of 3-4 shots per day, brew valve seals are well grooved, the cam and mating faces clearly worn.

A rebuild on my timetable is preferred to a "must do". Taking the covers off and having a look-see for failing water or electrical connections saves needless frustration.
