Breville Oracle Touch LOUD noises while powered off.
Hello, all! I'm new here to the forums and hoping for some assistance. I've done a TON of research and have found similar issues but not the exact same problem. Here is what's going on.
I have a 4-year-old Breville Oracle Touch BES990BSS that has performed pretty much flawlessly since I purchased it. A few days ago, it started to make a loud "pumping sound"...WHILE TURNED OFF!! It was plugged in but not powered on and the noise was much louder than the normal pumping sound. The best I can tell is that it's coming from the steam wand side of the machine. There also seems to be some steam coming from the wand and water entering the drip tray while it does this.
I have not opened the machine up but I'm not afraid to. I've also done moderate repairs on my past espresso machines so I'm more than willing to give it a go if I know what to do. I absolutely LOVE this machine so any help or guidance that anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to HB Brent
Since it's 'OFF', do you have any pressure reading on the steam boiler gauge if there is one; what does it read?
Do the noises stop if while 'OFF' you open the steam & hot water spigots to release any pressure, then close them?

"You didn't buy an Espresso Machine - You bought a Chemistry Set!"
Thanks for responding. Unfortunately, mine is the Touch model so there is no steam gauge nor the ability to manually open the steam or hot water spigots.

The guess without seeing it is that you have a leak, probably from boiler-connection o-rings, and it's steaming the powerboard. It may have permanently damaged the board, but there's a chance there's no damage.
If you're comfortable opening it, do. Find and fix all leaks. Thoroughly dry the powerboard and inspect it for anything obvious like burn marks or popped capacitors, etc. See how it does after thorough drying out.

JRising, thanks so much for your info. I have no problem opening the machine up for a peek inside. I also have no problem replacing any o-rings. However, I have not taken this one apart before. By any chance would you happen to have a link to a disassembly video and/or a guide to replacing the o-rings? I'm assuming these an be purchased pretty much anywhere?
Sorry to be a pain, I've done some searching, can't find a real good video or guide on doing this.

See if you can find a link on You-Tube if you haven't tried that already.phxflyboy wrote:By any chance would you happen to have a link to a disassembly video and/or a guide to replacing the o-rings?

OK, I think I may have found the issue! Here are a few pics. And my next questions would be:
1. Do you think this is actually the problem? Looks like it was leaking at that tube then dripping down onto that electrical connection.
2. Does this seem like it would be fixed by simply replacing that o-ring?
3. Does the part ABOVE the o-ring, the black part on the tube, also need replacing?
Thanks for all the help you guys are providing, I really appreciate it!

1. It's definitely leaking which could be the original source of the problem. If a pump is running when the machine is off, it's very likely that the mainboard is the issue. Seems a bit odd that a small leak in that area would make it to your main board though. Maybe you can post a video? The component it's dripping on is a thermostat that's there for safety purposes. Not related to the pumping sound.phxflyboy wrote:OK, I think I may have found the issue! Here are a few pics. And my next questions would be:

2. This would fix the water leak but won't resolve any damaged electrical components of course. I'd at least open up the white main board case and ensure that it's bone dry
3. If there is a washer above the o-ring I'd say no, you don't have to replace it
Uriah,
Thank you!
1. I've got it all disassembled now so I can't do a video. If it repeats this issue after reassembly, I'll shoot a video. I wondered if that was some kind of probe it was dripping on. Hopefully, that was causing a chain reaction that caused the other electrical issue. I guess I'll see soon.
2. The new o-rings will be here Tuesday, I guess I'll see if that fixes the leak and the other issue. I may take a peek inside the main board and see if there is any obvious damage. I have no problem replacing various parts to get to the root of this.
3. Copy that about the washer. I'll give it a go with just the new o-ring.
Thanks again, I'll update in a few days when the new o-rings are installed. One quick question regarding that. The clip that holds that hose in was put in from the bottom up. Is there any reason I can't install from the top down? Would be MUCH easier!
