jpender wrote:My experience is that it is better in the sense that it isn't getting stuck. But it's slower than it used to be. I can see it unfolding a few lines at a time whereas other websites just pop onto the screen instantaneously. It has a 28k modem feel.
The consistency may improve throughout the day. I ran the curl test 20x directly on the server:
Time Total: 0.449
Time Total: 0.395
Time Total: 0.378
Time Total: 0.310
Time Total: 0.320
Time Total: 0.325
Time Total: 0.295
Time Total: 0.402
Time Total: 0.373
Time Total: 0.331
Time Total: 0.337
Time Total: 0.298
Time Total: 0.319
Time Total: 0.311
Time Total: 0.336
Time Total: 0.340
Time Total: 0.333
Time Total: 0.351
Time Total: 0.336
Time Total: 0.318
And here's the same test run from my laptop over the public network:
Time Total: 6.233837
Time Total: 1.909841
Time Total: 9.867858
Time Total: 0.445195
Time Total: 1.664795
Time Total: 3.334518
Time Total: 7.084069
Time Total: 6.623081
Time Total: 3.040478
Time Total: 0.468526
Time Total: 0.679785
Time Total: 1.791784
Time Total: 5.339140
Time Total: 0.703051
Time Total: 0.737286
Time Total: 0.509464
Time Total: 0.717836
Time Total: 0.444451
Time Total: 0.851264
Time Total: 2.541436
There's a few big outliers in the above set (9.8, 7.0, 6.6, 5.3). The data center with the outliers wasn't always the same, suggesting [again] that it's an unpredictable delay in the network hops between "here" and the HB server. While that's sometimes annoying, it's much better than the last two days. I'll go with the programmer's suggestion I mentioned earlier.

The site has been lightning fast all day for me. Much faster then I can remember it being in the past few years.

At least for me, this site has always been fast :D, but in trying to diagnose this problem, I eliminated some script loading until later in the page, so in theory that could explain the performance boost you noticed.

I've seen regular slowdowns for ages. Nothing like the last few days but still pretty irritating. Hopefully the site will stay "fast" on my end.

Hmm-m, that's news to me. I've tracked performance for a long time; you can check yourself anytime with Google Page Speed Insights. If you click "Show Origin Summary", it show the overall stats for all pages. For example, I just captured this one for the desktop:

The mobile only scores a 90; that's still good! From a user's viewpoint, the LCP is probably the most noticeable -- that's when the page is visualized enough that the user knows it's responding.

And I wasn't blaming you, just pointing out that the Speed Insights test doesn't show the issues we had.
