No Cloudflare errors today. Yesterday it happened every time I accessed the site.

Hello:
Although the HTTP 520 errors I got were haphazard.
ie: could not reliably reproduce them.
Good going, Dan. =^D

Only one 520 today, so turning "HTTPS Everywhere" off was a red herring .HB wrote:I've seen it twice today.
I installed HTTPS Everywhere, but not sure how it could impact 520 errors. As I understand it, the plug-in rewrites the HTML to have explicit https references. That's already true for HB, so it shouldn't have any changes to make. But who knows, maybe it's a bug in their rewriting code that affects some URLs. If you see it again and HTTPS Everywhere is installed, take a look at the URL of the link leading up to the error; if it's wonky in some way (e.g., realllllly long and mangled, it could be rejected by Cloudflare).
The broken image link you noticed was a synchronization error between the web servers; it should be fixed now.

As far as I'm concerned, problem is fixed. No 520 errors now. Thanks Dan.

Got two today but if I try other ways around the site, I can get to where I want to go. HMMMM

I've seen one today. At this point, I'm going to assume the problem lies with Cloudflare and that it will eventually be 100% fixed (fingers crossed).

Cloudflare support has a proposed fix and confirmed using HB's servers that it avoids the errant 520s. They plan to roll it out worldwide soon. This should be the end of the 520 problems.
