Thanks, Nick. I've been cleaning the grind outlet weekly, and this is what it looks like right before its weekly cleaning. Does this look like what you'd expect, or is there more buildup than usual?

Yes that is typically the last .1g of coffee that is retained in between cycles.

I don't have the fancy new one, but I commonly put my fingers a bit in front of the back edge of the lid to hold it in place, lift up the front edge 1/2" or so and let it snap back down to puff out the remaining coffee.

I received the Opus preview email this morning - very exciting!

As impressive as it looks, I think the Ode Gen2 and SSP burrs will exceed it - does the impending Opus release mean the Ode Gen2 SSP restocks are going to take some time? I hope not!

Just to be super clear, Opus was not designed to compete with Ode Gen 2 at all.

Ode Gen 2 is like specialized race car. It was designed to do one thing and one thing exceptionally well; filter coffee. You're not going to get the clarity that Ode Gen 2 offers in the cup compared to Opus.

Opus is a sub $200 40mm conical burr grinder that can do everything. It's an entry level grinder that someone interested in specialty coffee can buy and grow with over time. The flavor profiles from Opus and Ode Gen 2 are going to be very different.

Has any reviewer received a version of this product yet so that we could get a sense of whether it has any major flaws? This grinder at this price point really helps me out, but I'm also a little hesitant to purchase something that's not been vetted yet.

Of course. There are plenty of press units in the wild and reviews will be coming soon. We have done this with all of the other launches we have done recently (EKG Pro and Pro Studio as well as Ode Gen 2). I believe that reviews will be dropping on launch day, which is 2/21.

This might be out of your pay grade but it would be awesome if the embargo was lifted even one day before the release.

I want to buy this for my wife but when you say "entry level" and "grow with you" I start getting worried about flavor profiles. I want her to have a grinder that is all for her medium/light-medium blends where she doesn't need all the crazy clarity I want out of my light/nordics.

Would this at least be better than what Breville puts in their Barista Express/Pro/standalone Grinder?

I can't comment on any competitor products; I can just try and help design the best stuff we can at the price point. I can say with honesty I am genuinely happy with these burrs, and am looking forward to seeing how they will be received by the world.

If you are interested in this grinder, I would HIGHLY recommend joining our email list which can be done here: https://fellowproducts.com/pages/opus-is-coming

Hey Nick, Opus looks super intriguing! I was wondering - I have SSP burrs that came with my Ode Gen 2, they are marvelous with light-med roasts but maybe a bit too specialized (clear, thin?) with darker roasts for my one/only brew grinder. Would Opus provide a more chocolate-y/fuller profile counterpoint? Thinking two brew grinders could help keep those SSPs in action for special duty.

I just swapped the SSPs out for the gen 2 burrs, and they are definitely more of that choco-nut profile. But I bet I'll miss the SSPs.

Thank you!
