I have the older polished panel, not the mirror. It works fairly well, but it isn't ideal. I'm rather tall though, so the angle might work better for more normal sized home baristas. If I end up getting a newer de-1, I think I may use a separate mirror instead.

As TallDan said, it isn't ideal but I do use it still. On small cups it works fine under a certain angle that isn't the most natural. I'm 6'1" by the way. I just don't want to clutter with more things like a separate mirror. I have the mirror lip btw that i installed myself.icantroast wrote:Awesome, thanks guys. Thanks a lot guys! I'm 50/50 on getting it because I'm not so sure how much I love all the chrome and mirror like finishes, lol. Makes me go nuts with wanting to keep everything clean. Last question for everyone is, do you know how to find out when the 110V DE1+ will be in stock? I have heard it might be quite a wait.

That and the order page (which currently says 3 weeks) tells you everything there is to know. Place an order and you'll get it ASAP. There used to be months long waits, but in the last couple of months they've expanded production and brought it down significantly. Still not "in stock and ready to ship" but not a bad wait, IMO.
As far as the mirror lip goes, I'd say go for it. I think the mirrors they use now have less distortion then the polished SS lip that I have. I used something similar to this on my silvia before I got the DE1, and i might end up using something like that again to have easy adjustability. The lyn weber looking glass is another very nice looking option.

I'm 6' tall, and the mirror does work for me, but perhaps you didn't know that I expected tall people to take a step backwards, away from the machine, so that the angle of the lip looks into the shot. There's no way to make a fixed lip angle work for all height people, so tall people need to step slightly away.jevenator wrote:As TallDan said, it isn't ideal but I do use it still. Here's a photo with my iphone at my eye-level, taken just now, and you can see about how far I can from the DE1.

Right, which isn't a problem but doesn't fit under the definition of my ideal which is different for each person. For some it might be excellent. It's a minor detail andI prefer the lip than not to have it at all.
I set up my coffee table recently next to my dining table in my apartment to clear up kitchen space so I just take a seat now and lean forward a bit.
Standing up, I'm about 3ft away to get the ideal view of under the basket.

Is that a conversation on the diaspora? in Decent camera with espresso porn on the tablet during extraction?

It has been discussed, although I don't think there's any current conversation about it. I think discussion was more around the idea of recording it to play back along with the graphs from the shot than for a live view on the tablet.
