Gotta say, a lot of people are excited about the bengle. Quite a bit of the Facebook/reddit espresso stuff has mentions of it with anticipation. I'm excited to see how it turns out physically (the idea of the quiet pump upgrade in the future is definitely tempting)

New: soft shipping bag for DE1

We ship our espresso machine in a suitcase, which itself is in a cardboard box.

Sometimes, the machine has to be shipped back to us for a repair, but the customer has discarded the outside cardboard box. Locally buying a larger box for the suitcase doesn't protect it well, and *hugely* increases the shipping cost due to volumetric pricing (often +$150 !). Air shipping a huge (flattened) cardboard box to them is no better.

To solve this situation, we've designed a tough, foldable fabric bag, with an integrated transparent shipping label pouch. We can send it in a simple envelope, and they get it a few days later via airmail.

We'll send this soft bag to people who are under warranty, for free, if they have discarded their cardboard box and need to send their machine back to us. It does cause a one week delay to get this back, so you'll get faster repair service if you kept your cardboard box.

Those out of warranty, or people who just want the bag (maybe they fly with their DE1), can the bag buy it for USD$9 at https://decentespresso.com/accessories

Our German manual is now online, in HTML, PDF and ePub.
https://decentespresso.com/doc/quickstart_de/

It's also available directly inside the de1app itself.

All linked Youtube videos have hand-written German subtitles.

John, I have a problem with Decent website.
I wanted to access
https://decentespresso.com/doc/
and specifically research docs from Stéphane Ribes.
They all show up empty.

Dang, you're right. I'm unfortunately just at the start of a two week holiday, so I'll fix that when I'm back on the 24th. I'll let you know when they're fixed.

Sorry about the delay. I'm back from a two week vacation, and have now fixed this. All the links https://decentespresso.com/doc/ should now work.

Video: Unboxing your Decent Espresso DE1 (v2 suitcase)

If you just ordered a Decent, or are curious what the unboxing experience would be like, here you go. A video all about that.

Over the years, we've incrementally improved this initial experience, so that it's going faster and with fewer ways for it to go wrong now. This video shows our totally-reimagined suitcase, which allows us to detach the suitcase wheels, and to include most of the accessories you need to make espresso, in the spare spaces of the suitcase foam.

One area that we need to improve, is showing people how to attach an external water source to their Decent (either a water tank, or a pressurized source, via our two different refill kits). That video is in progress now, though handling all the different thread and connector "standards" (there are so many to love) in one video is a bit of a challenge.

New video: Decent Factory Tour

In December, I shot this walking tour of the Decent Espresso factory.

I move from the video studio, through the front entrance, via boxing, Alex's R&D, Alfred's cave, saying hi to Paul, Celine and Bugs, and then through each step of the factory, where we build our espresso machines. You'll see the machines being built at each stage, as well as quickly meeting each person who is the "master" of each component.

COVID was still very much a thing in Hong Kong at the time, so you'll see a lot of people wearing masks. I was really trying to get our video production quality up, so I was recording a new video every day. We did so for 3 months. So, that's why this video is appearing 11 months later, as we're still editing the stuff shot a year ago. Sorry about the sound being a bit loud and scratchy, as we had to turn the gain up on the microphone, since this is a working factory, and not a studio.

I'm pleased with this video, because: if you've been following us for a few years, and you compare what you see today, to what we were several years, wow! you'd never have guessed we'd get to this point.

Here's how things stood in 2018, to compare with today.

Video: Simple Scale

Here's a short & sweet 2 minute video explaining our Decent Simple Scale. It's a 0.1g coffee scale, intentionally low-featured, just fast and reliable. I realize that this product is self-explanatory, but nonetheless, Decent's M.O. is to explain why, what & how of each thing we sell, in a video. I'd never made a video for this product, even though we've been selling it since 2016 and have shipped thousands of these. It was time!
