I also have a V 1.0. The V1.0 sometimes goes of the rails but resumes accurate reading with a reset. I wonder what that is about.

If there were a smartphone based app that replicated the readout and controls of the scale via bluetooth, I would use such an applet. Is there such an application for iphone that you are aware of?
The v1.0 scales had a capacitor that wasn't super reliable, that got replaced with our v1.1 scales. Each generation (we're on 1.2 now) has had improvements.

As to an app, aren't you using the scale with the de1app? If so, you don't need to use the buttons, just the app. The DSX skin provides more scale functionality (such as weighing beans with it).

I believe the free iOS app written my Markus supports two scales at once. That might be interesting.

I see. I keep using 1.0 for pourover and 1.1 ble to Decent XL. They work fine.

I would like the simplest of all digital scale apps. Just tare, start, stop, reset with a timer. That way I can pourover brew and see the readouts on my phone without craning my neck to see the scale .

aromas remain enticing, and I intrigued, ah coffee!

You and I are on the same page, design wise. The new scale is just those features, just as the existing Decent Scale is, but now the LCD faces upwards, so no more craning, and the new scale model is really thin.

I'm waiting for the beta 3 version to be built (solving a button touch issue) and then we're good to go to manufacture. We're adding a "battery charging indicator" in this last version, as it was difficult otherwise to tell whether your usb charger is working.

My DE1XL sits on the countertop and I use my Decent Scale. The problem is that I have to remove the scale, disable the scale in the app, and restart the app to fit taller cups under the group head. I know there is a Half Decent Scale and a new model Bengel in dev, but I think that lowering the drip tray is an acceptable solution for me. The current drip tray sits on top of the rail base, and there is a lot of space between the countertop and drip tray. I can get enough room under the group head if I turn the drip tray sideways to sit on the countertop. So I wonder if anyone makes an alternate drip tray that sits directly on the countertop between the rail base for people that want extra space under the group head.
EDIT: or a scale stand that permits the scale to sit below the drip tray

There are stands that accommodate a scale under the drip tray. There's the Sheldon drip tray (which I use) and 3D prints available as well.

I prefer the under-slung scale options, as it keeps the scale isolated from any machine vibrations and out of the way of group flushes.

The Decent app allows you to stop at volume as well as weight. For simple profiles: yes, you must disconnect the scale and restart the app, which is simply unacceptable.* But for advanced profiles, you can set weight or volume limits, or both (in which case, the extraction will stop whenever either is triggered). My workaround for simple profiles is to create an equivalent advanced profile that has both limits; then the scale becomes optional, although stop at volume is less accurate.

How tall are your cups? The DE1 has quite a bit of room underneath the grouphead, half inch over the Spaz Vivaldi and even more over the LM Micra. I am using Damian's scale adapter with the Atomax Skale 2, and there's almost too much room for standard size espresso cups.

* I have asked John Buckman to address this issue several times; he seems either unwilling or unable to do so.

For sure there was plenty of clearance until we started using the scale. Even with the scale there is plenty clearance for a spoutless portafilter, but our double spout leaves a little under 7 cm clearance with the Decent Scale on top of the drip tray. Our cups are 8 - 10 cm tall, and we like to pull the espresso directly into the cups as opposed to using shot glasses. We can tilt the cups to slide them under the portafilter. We have some mugs for Americanos that are taller so we remove the portafilter to dispense hot water.

Still learning how to tinker with the presets. Will try your volume/weight trick, and will probably order the sworks scale stand, as that will allow the portafilter to drip directly into the tray, instead of onto the scale.

Well yeah, you need more clearance with a spouted portafilter. Why not use the bottomless? Plenty of room.

L: 6cm capp cup; R: 11cm mug (thanks Ira)

With a bottomless, I've got no trouble fitting a mug on top of a Lunar sitting on the regular drip tray. Any of my espresso cups, cappuccino cups, or measuring cups fit just fine even with the spouted portafilter.

I'm pretty sure that the recommended sworks scale stand will resolve my issues with the Decent scale.
