My wife loves the purple resin, just wish I'd bought 3. I've got a set of the stock black handles if you want to trade.

Yeah, I've been working with Euan Lake, who makes the Acaia countersunk drip tray cover. Here's a photo of mine (not painted, it's a prototype).HH wrote:Congratulations on your lovely new machine!
John previously advised the half decent scale should be available in a month or two. I think the Decent Scale is a great addition in terms of functionality of the machine, but I am also looking forward to the half decent scale becoming available. John has also advised they are working on a counter-sunk drip tray to work with it, which sounds awesome.
The half decent scale is still a few months away. I haven't signed off on it yet as I want to nail all the firmware issues I've located. I'm about to receive a new beta scale with a double-tap-to-power-off feature, so that water on the scale doesn't false trigger the button.
It's still in R&D, we're waiting for the next revision prototype, and I'll be writing a new skin for it, with specific pump control for that profile (keeping a constant water level above the grounds). I'm hoping it'll be done by christmas.butlrr wrote:Any estimate on when the filter 3.0 basket will be available for purchase? Thanks!
John - will you ever offer the DE1PRO in white? Curious why you only offer black, thanks!

The DE1PRO is our least expensive machine, and making things in white is more expensive for us. We have to get custom-made white tablets, for instance, as no 8" tablets are currently made in white. And white paint has a much higher QC failure rate.
So, no plans for a DE1PRO in white.

Some of us have vinyl-wrapped, powder-coated, painted or otherwise customised our DE1Pros, which is always an option if you would like a custom colour or finish. Decent also offer a clear (Perspex) case, which is super cool as you can see the machine working whilst pulling a shot!brooklynRunner wrote:John - will you ever offer the DE1PRO in white?
I have been researching the Decent and am almost ready to pull the trigger. My only hesitation right now is the channeling and the focus on puck prep. How necessary are WDT and other puck prep methods? My reservation is for my wife. When I am away and if she wants to make an espresso. She wants something that she can grind, tamp and push a button. Are my concerns unfounded?
If I order, what accessories would you recommend?
Thanks!

Whether you do WDT or not really depends on how good you want the coffee to be. If you're on a light roast, it's pretty essential, I think. On a medium to darker roast, the effect is less. If you have a grinder that puts the grounds into the center of the basket evenly, that's even better.BernHavoc wrote:I have been researching the Decent and am almost ready to pull the trigger. The thing to bear in mind is that the Decent shows you where you could improve your puck prep, whereas other machines don't. That makes people think they must have perfect puck prep to use a Decent. They don't, but they will see the effect on screen of doing so, whereas normally they'd have been ignorant of the difference.
WDT isn't a big deal, it's not hard to do. Here's a video of someone using an espresso machine for the first time in their life. A coworker is explaining to her what to do, and she does WDT. Perhaps show that to your wife?
When you add a DE1 to your shopping cart, we automatically add the accessories we recommend, and all of them fit inside the suitcase. You can remove what you don't think you need.BernHavoc wrote:If I order, what accessories would you recommend?

DE1 v1.44 at 10% less than v1.45
We have a limited number of new & perfect DE1 machines that we built in July, that are v1.44, but that we're selling at 10% lower price than our current-model v1.45.
The only differences between these v1.44 and the v1.45 is:
- the Suitcase is our v1 model
- and the brass group head parts, and you can choose to upgrade to the v2 group head parts for $100 if you want.
- The included basket is 18g ridgeless, just like the v1.45 model.

Filter3 basket explained with Kaffee Macher and Scott Rao
A few weeks ago, on our EU tour, we spent the day with Benjamin from Kaffee Macher. They run a very popular German-language coffee channel and recently started an English language channel.
We recorded a two part video about the upcoming Filter3 method (a basket and accompanying profile) for making filter coffee with a Decent Espresso machine.
Benjamin a great interviewer, and I'm really pleased at how this video managed to cover quite a lot of substantive information, yet not get too geeky either.
If you're curious about what Decent and Scott are working on for the next generation of Filter coffee, these two videos are a great overview.
As to "when will this new basket ship?" -- we're still in R&D on this, and besides the basket I'm also working on a special-purpose app for making Filter3, to walk you through the prep, keep the water level about the grounds at the level we want, and to assist with making it perfectly. I'm hoping to see all this done and released toward the end of the 2023.

Hey John,
Any updates on the bengle? I've been looking forward to hearing about it - the updated aesthetic prototype designs look awesome. I know last year it was hoped for early, prototype release sometime q3 but not sure if there have been delays.
Thanks!
