Hi Paul,

I fitted the new group seal yesterday, but the lock position of my portafilter is now way past the center. Im using a pop on screen.
What am I doing wrong. Does anyone have the same problem?

Thanks

Hi Klaus. This gets complicated and I mentioned it in the other lever thread. If you previously used a machine that came with the E61 screen and put in the older style pop on screen, the lock in position will change to further in no matter what group seal you use. The reason is because the E61 screen adds, by my estimates around 0.6-0.8mm thickness to the gasket, since it is jammed up behind it.

If you change to a pop in screen the portafilter will go in further. It is further complicated because not only have the group seals been adjusted from 6.0 to 5.4mm, the portafilters themselves have been modifed as well.

Since the manufacturers have mixed all these things up with screens and portafilters, this is why it was easier for me to just make a new modified E61 screen, rather than a better pop in screen.

Anyway if the lock in position is too far with the pop in screen I would would go back to the E61.

Paul

We did a quick video on how to change the piston seals and how easy they are to change.

Is anybody else using the silicone group and piston seals yet?
Whats your experience?

Nice videos and a nice look at your custom built machine there! Love it.

Next order from Cafelat I guess I'll grab a couple piston seals to see how they work on my Strega. Definitely look easier to install!
