To be honest, I thought the aluminium ones were charming to look at. There is something about the combination of aluminum and 1950s design that is visually delightful. The stainless looks clinical by comparison. (Obviously, I've only seen them on a computer screen, in person my opinion might be different, but I've seen enough products made from both materials to guess at what they look like in person.) Of course, looks have to be secondary to function.

One of my favorite vintage machines is a Caravel that combines aluminum and stainless steel. The stainless parts in contact with water on the Caravel stand out for longevity, and that should be similar for the Robot.

I'm excited for more updates on this.

I wonder if you couldn't preheat it in an oven to get temperature stable before shots if you really want to get crazy.

Now that we are doing the work ourselves, we have done as much work in 2 months as our partner did in 2 years. Anyway, stainless steel pistons, portafilters and spouts are all in and working well. A few minor adjustments left. I must say it is a good feeling to have the water only in contact with stainess steel.

The chinese new year holiday is throwing a spanner in the works as we want to get on with mass production but factories are reluctant to even email these days as they want to clear the factor before they break up. There is one small adjustment left to the arms, and they may even be stainless as well.

But I am pushing to get production started ASAP.

Paul,
great news. I'm sure you know the expression that if you want it done...and done right, you sometimes have to do it yourself.
Glad to hear all is progressing well. Lets hope the rest of this project goes smoothly, and you can get Mr Robot-o to the general public on your schedule.
Cheers.

Any sense what the price will be, keeping in mind the shift to stainless steel?
