How many of you guys actually keep the lever up for 10 seconds? I might be doing things wrong..
If I'm not getting any drips after keeping the lever up is that a sure sign my grind is too fine?

I typically keep the lever up for 6 to 8 seconds for traditional espresso roasts and 10 to 15 seconds for lighter roasts. Not always but those are my starting parameters.

I usually but not always see drops with espresso roasts and usualy don't but sometimes do with lighter roasts.

FWIW I hold a light pressure on the lever to try to approximate a 2-3 bar preinfusion for lighter roasts. Typically 8-10 sec.
