With my current Londinium I replaced the very restrictive top cover to a screened top to keep cool air flowing through the machine. I have had no boiler issues with it at all, and especially no electrically. Just a big spring rub problem, which I believe now to be a centered spring not working and it needs to be offset since I saw rub marks on the cylinder wall with a centered spring.
Spring is now offset as far as possible to one side, away from the rub marks that the spring was leaving, and now the lever pull is silent!! It has only taken a couple of years of rubbing to show rub marks so I could fix it. Next step is to get some other springs to see if they rub when they are centered in the Group/Lever head. I seriously think it was a mis-manufactured spring where the ends of the spring were not parallel. If any of you L1-R owners encounter a strange noise when you pull the Lever you can wager money on it that the spring is the culprit.
