Well got the group rebuilt easily enough. Then flipped it on to pull a test shot. It came to temp but the steam release never stopped hissing. I assume I need to change that gasket too.

Here's a trick learned from Christopher Cara. Use something softer than the metal, say a wooden mallet. Give it a rap, not a hard blow. It'll likely stop hissing, as easy as that.

I will give it a try but I have a feeling it's gonna need replaced. I have had this machine since 2008 and have not serviced the opv once. Seems past due

The OPV can get stuck. The other thing you can do is check the mushroom and spring and tighten the bolt. I'm suggesting tapping the bolt itself in case you've got a scale buildup. If so, descale. When the tap works, it's instant.
