Hi,

A lot of minimalist pour over espresso machine uses piston as infusion point for hot water.. It's basically a piston in piston approach where there is a pathway made inside the outer piston through which water reaches the bru chamber or coffee puck in portafilter during upward stroke of piston and then during the download stroke the inner piston acts as one way valve closing the water path way..

Is this a very old idea.? Who originally came up with this design...?

I think the reciprocating pump was first described by Egyptians back centuries. Then it was further developed in the 17th century which awaited James Watt to power it.

AFAIK - Achille Gaggia was the first to attach a lever driven piston to an espresso machine.
Scraping away (slowly) at the tyranny of biases and dogma.

Hi,

Is the piston design used by minimalist machines like Newton or Strietman unique to these machines only or its used by other commercially available machines as well...?
