Hey HB!

We're two engineers and espresso enthusiasts from Seattle and we designed/built a prototype lever espresso machine from scratch. It outputs 2 shots from a temperature controlled group and boiler and there's a touchscreen to view real-time brew pressure. This can be viewed in either gauge or Pressure vs Time graph format to see profiling in more detail.

Rendered

Prototype

Features:
PID temperature controlled boiler
PID temperature controlled grouphead
3.3" touchscreen display
Digital brew pressure gauge and pressure profiling
Pre-Infusion and extraction timer
Boiler water level sensing
Steam wand
Hot water wand
Stainless steel body
No plastic contacting brewing water
Easily accessible seals
Single boiler
Optional boiler/drip tray plumbing
2 shots of espresso output per pull
Standard E61 grouphead components
58 mm bottomless portafilter
Overall dimensions: 10"W x 16"D x 14.5"H (excludes lever)
Price target: $1299

We are still in the development phase but hope to eventually launch a Kickstarter (or other crowdfunding campaign) if there appears to be enough interest in the idea. Be aware that before the Kickstarter we need time to redesign some components, finalize the GUI and qualify our suppliers.

User feedback would be of great help at this point in the project, so let us know what you think and would be happy to answer any questions.

Check out our website for more info and pictures of the prototypes: http://www.evelloespresso.com

Sweet jambalaya !!

That looks promising as you hit the right buttons.

Congratulations and good luck.

1) Ever consider a open boiler version for those of us who don't steam milk ?
2) Is this a custom group or are you using a ready cast one ?

Very cool looking machine!

Hello and Welcome!

Boiler pressure is important an it's cool that you can measure the brew pressure, but what about group head temperature, which is absolutely critical in small group home lever espresso machines! Is there a way to measure that? How stable is the group?

1) At the moment we are not considering an open boiler design. Perhaps in a future version.
2) It's a custom group with independent temp control and a feature that removes most of the trapped air under the piston. No more fellini maneuver needed.

Thanks!

The grouphead temperature is independently measured and controlled with a separate PID algorithm. The temperature stability of the brew water entering the portafilter is +/- 0.5 C. (We're still testing to verify these numbers)
The brew temperature is adjustable from 94C to 99C.

"Our design only requires removal of one c-clip and four screws to gain access to all high-pressure seals and gaskets."

Pet peeve as this would make the task much easier. https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/4952791 ... -stainless
Pins with inner screw threads. No finicky C or E clips which break often.
Worst yet many scratch the lever arm trying to remove them.
Between order and chaos there is espresso.
Semper discens.

As long-time members surely know, the site's Terms of use include a reminder that no commercial posts are allowed. Vendor participation in the forums elaborates on this policy. For the last year, we've experimented with relaxing these rules on a case-by-case basis for a short period to enable product innovators to request feedback. The exception only applied to products not in market; once a product was for sale, the regular "no commercial posts" rules applied.

Over the last year, several product developers have contacted me asking for an exception. Others have simply posted their offering, assuming that it was acceptable to post Kickstarter-type announcements. Members and moderators alike have flagged these threads, often by first-time posters, as commercial posts. This led to me getting offline complaints about the clarity of the rules and their limits.

Therefore, as another experiment, I've introduced a new kind of thread -- a paid [PROMO] placement. It offers an alternative for those who want to gather feedback for a commercial venture, but aren't ready for full sponsorship that comes with Marketplace access. For the duration of the placement period, the innovator/vendor is free to provide information and gather feedback in this thread only, even if its of a commercial nature. Outside of the [PROMO] thread, the innovator/vendor must adhere to all the usual site rules regarding commercial posts.

With that preamble, please welcome Evello Espresso to HB!

PS: To avoid derailing this thread with discussion of site policy, please post any questions or concerns about this experimental [PROMO] thread in Paid placement for promotional threads [PROMO]. Thanks!

Congrats on what looks like an awesome concept and a very exciting project!

Will a declining temp profile be possible?

Nice work! The size and looks are very appealing. What size is the boiler?

Thanks! At this point we don't plan on that being a specific feature. Though you could simply lower the brew set temp just before pulling a shot and the group would cool down some.
