Embracing Espresso Excellence: A Glowing Review of the Ponte Vecchio Export Lever Espresso Machine - Page 2
- espressotime
Hello, I'm a PV Export owner as well. I've had my machine for almost a year now and am very happy with it, always looking to improve. Some questions for everyone:
1. To RTM, where did you get the conical ring for the portafilter to keep the ground coffee from spilling out? I haven't been able to find one of a suitable diameter. Sorry, I don't know exactly what those are called?
2. I have one of those temperature strips on the group head - I've noticed the first shot shows 70 (after running some water through the group head) and the temperature increases to 90 - 95 after multiple shots. At which temperature have you found the optimal results?
3. I normally use Italian coffee beans from the likes of Miscela D'Oro, Esse, Cafe Vergnano, etc. all of which seem to be pretty dark roast. Which roasts/coffees have you found give you the best results?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Are you talking about the portafilter funnel?aescobar wrote:1. To RTM, where did you get the conical ring for the portafilter to keep the ground coffee from spilling out? I haven't been able to find one of a suitable diameter. Sorry, I don't know exactly what those are called?
I used a Dremel to slightly adjust an Aeropress funnel. Fits nicely.

Someone is selling 45mm dosing funnels on Etsy in the US. They look like 3D printer products.
I have an aluminum one from a European source. Away from home right now, but I will check the brand/source after I get back.
BTW I also use an Export model for my daily driver. The only machine that fits equally well in a tiny European kitchen is the Pavoni. The Export beats it hands down for convenience and consistency in the cup.

In the USA, Orphan Espresso - not tamp-through (choose 43.5mm): https://www.orphanespresso.com/oe-alumi ... 51mm-sizes
Neat! Is the machine new or vintage?peacecup wrote:New arrival!

The funnel came with my machine when I got it.. It works great and is 10 grams on the nose, which makes for easy math when weighing beans out. only downside is that it sits inside the portafilter, so you cannot tamp through it.aescobar wrote:Hello, I'm a PV Export owner as well. I dont have a temp strip, but I can attest that my 2nd and third shots are always better than the first somehow.
for the beans, the usual " roasted less than 2 weeks ago" is my minimum criteria, I like lighter roasted beans ( dry looking and no oil) after faffing around trying to save money, I definitely notice that it is easier to dial in and the extractions are better with fresh roasted beans.

Same here! For the small 45mm, this is the best tool if you WDTpatrickff wrote:Are you talking about the portafilter funnel?
