Hello,

Today I received my very first La Pavoni machine and it appears it was damaged in transit. Somehow the tube that brings in the water bent the threads of the group, so consequently it is impossible to put back on. I've only found one site that sells replacement groups and it's pretty much the same price I paid for the machine. Is there any other way I can resolve this problem?

The sender is filing a claim with UPS after the weekend and I filed a claim with eBay.

Thanks

Filing a claim with eBay should get you a refund, especially if you've fully documented it, showing a photo of the package and the damage. What you received is not what was advertised. Whether or not UPS pays is secondary to your eBay buyer protection.

Perhaps you can post a photo of the damage here so we can see what you're describing.

Do you need an entire replacement group or just the dipper tube?

The dipper tube itself cost only about 7 euro and can be found here:

Here's a picture of the damaged threading. Besides a ridiculous amount of scale and a few blemishes, that's the only real damage I can tell.

Is that a third generation group (post 2000)? If so you might be able to file back the part that obstructs threading in the plastic insert, replace the insert if it's damaged, and it should work, since there seem to be enough additional threads remaining, and the group fastens against the boiler. For good measure you could add some thread sealant that isn't a thread locker.

It is. It's the 2005 special edition model. After I hear back from the seller and see how the claim goes, I'll try to file it down and do that. Until then I guess I'll clean it very thoroughly because she's a bit dirty.

Was the machine shipped disassembled? It's hard to imagine how that dent can occur during shipping otherwise.

Yes, the machine was disassembled for shipment.

That ding can be easily removed with proper tooling and machine setup. It will be lower cost than a new group.

Someone with this vintage Pavoni should be able to give you the thread pitch, maybe 1.00 mm?
