Ditto. Typically dosing 14g of Full City-ish roast level and 15g of City level in the "LF" baskets. They work but I would like better flow of IMS baskets. I'd be looking for 16g baskets. I don't think I'd have any use for larger capacity baskets as it seems like the sweet spot for the Cremina is 16g or lower anyway.LBIespresso wrote:I did the exact same thing. I would like an 18 for sure. thinking about 16 andor 14 too.
I just looked over the thread and it looks like there are close to 15 baskets in the 18 size and 5 or so of the 14 and 16.
How many do you think they would need to do a run?

Do you think the Strietman 18g would fit mcal? My old Cremina baskets fit a little loose in my mcal.

If you purchase the Elektra double baskets, those fit 18g no problem. They are definitely larger than the stock Cremina (or Pavoni) double.
Of course, they aren't precision baskets as per the original discussion.

Hi Greg, I was surprised to find out recently from Johnny Cerini when looking for the old Cremina double baskets, that the stock Cremina baskets are now the same as the MCAL doubles.
And I would go for 2x18s and 2x14s

Cerini says the Cremina and Elektra baskets used to be different but now are the same. The ones I bought are identical in marking and size. They are 23 mm tall and hold about 14 to 14.5 grams. At 15 grams the top of the puck starts to touch the shower screen.
How tall is your Elektra 18 gram basket? Do you know where they can be purchased?

My MCaL doubles are 26mm tall. I got them from Stefano (Espresso Care) a couple of years ago, when he had them on sale for $10 each.

My OEM Oly baskets are from '73/'74 machines, so I can't comment on what is currently being supplied by Olympia. It sounds to me like what has changed is what Elektra is now supplying as their double, if they max out at 14.5g. My OEM Oly doubles max out at 14g. I've found my preferred dose is 16g for most coffees.

Greg,
Thank you very much. Hopefully, James will be able to get some baskets from IMS or VST made specifically for the Cremina, but meanwhile I will try the Elektra basket that Stefano's sells.
