HELP. Anyone know what is the best screw material to use as a replacement to work with the Spelter base of a Vam 1.1?

When opening the bottom, I have snapped one of the plastic feet screws and I will need to drill it out/ re-tap and replace with a new screw. I assume that as Spelter is a zink alloy, a zink screw would be the most appropriate replacement to limit Galvanic corrosion

Any advice much appreciated.

Real Name: Lost13, sounds like you're on the right track.
Don't know what the thread off hand. These are quite small. You can always go with a SS threaded rod cut to size.

Redbone

Thanks for your response.

I suspect SS would be a source of galvanic corrosion in the long run as the SS would sit against the shelter and there is no way to isolate the 2 metals.

Also, depending where the missing foot is, you can just elect to not replace. Some models have quite an array of feet on the sides, and the loss of one of these doesn't impact stability. If it's in a location where eliminating it isn't an option, you can go with the more clunky but nonetheless effective approach of gluing (or more likely, epoxying) the broken foot on. You typically don't need to remove the bottom plate for routine servicing and the epoxy/glue could easily be broken off and re-applied in the case that you do need to remove the plate. That way at least you have a stable machine.

CoffeeLover32...That is amazing 200+ pages.

I hope you find your Caravel - they are a treat and will give some joy.

For me one of the best things is that a Caravel can give some great results with less than stellar beans (yes even supermarket beans). Of course this machine will reward you when you have great beans.

Impressive work, I recall doing the same a while back before taking the leap to ownership.
Original 110v machines are hard to come by. Many were converted as the elements are available and the conversion is quite easy with some minor electrical knowledge.
Currently there is a 110v for sale in the buy / sell forum here. Best of luck and happy hunting.

Looks like it sold recently. You can always find one via ebay Italia and convert the electrical cord to 110-120v if comfortable. I would also replace any suspect internal wiring with new high temperature wiring. Elements are available from Brooks and at times via Paul at Cafelat. Brooks is in the Netherlands and shipping is expensive. If in no rush they do come up on the market here.
