This is a 58mm tamper with a 54mm base the top hat has a lip that sits inside the basket on a normal 58mm

This lip doesn't go inside a 54mm basket and it's too thin to shave down so it would. I thought of that as I've had tampers turned down before

I reckon there is enough meat in the top to trim it down to fit.
If not, I'll have to start with a chunk of SS and replace it.
What was the fit like for the 54mm base?
A bit loose?

The tamper the OP has I was using with standard baskets and it fits fine (my fine). Any tighter and they get a bit "catchy" when your working and after 30 or so espressos they become a PITA. The standard supplied tamper is almost at that point, but not quiet. I personally don't want it fitting too tight.

I wasn't expecting the micrometric precision requirements and suggest it won't make any difference to the extraction.

I heard some features from Vostok might trickle down to Evo eventually. Is this confirmed from ACS? Any other updates worth mentioning?

I have emailed them and they told me that the rotary pump and the dosed coffee system will trickle down to the evo leva

In my opinion, it is all about the experience. A loosely fit tamper and basket is definitely not a good one.

A free tamper :D

Stock tamper is fine for the stock baskets. Most move to ims comp baskets which need a bigger size.

The whole package you get is quite good really when with other machines you will only get one portafilter

If the same features trickle down, what would be the point of the Vostok - size of the boilers/cafe use? Have my eye on that machine but if all the same features would come in a smaller form factor that may be the move.

I have the space and prefer the look and stability of the larger commercial chassis.
