What is the proper volume of a single shot of espresso?
Hi Everyone,
What is the definitive size for a single shot of espresso in terms of what the industry recognizes?
Every website I do to tells me something different. Some say 1 ounce, 1.5 ounces or 2 ounces.
Also, when making espresso based drinks, what is the proper amount in ounces to use? For example, a conventional latte is 1/3 espresso and 2/3 steamed milk so how many ounces should I use.

I accept either definition as valid, though I prefer Andy's definitions based on brewing ratios because they're more easily comparable.
