Anyone else tried to extract whole beans? I did and found you need to tamp really hard...after that I went back from single dosing to using a mini hopper as it happened a few times.

I tried the host's blade grinder this morning. An unfortunately great way to ruin a Kenyan :(.

Had the same issue for my Oscar / Mazzer Major. Luckily I was awake
Funny though pouring beans into my Oscar reservoir never happened.

Going backpacking soon and was thinking of doing the cowboy coffee thing instead of VIA instant. Thought I'd test it out with a slightly different setup. Since boiling at altitude is 90°C or less I used a thermometer at home (sea level) to heat the water to 90. Something seemed funny though. It heated up really fast and the coffee didn't seem like it was brewing. It took me seven minutes to figure out I had the thermometer set to °F.

Maybe I'll stick with the instant.

One time I ground some coffee into my portafilter I keep my blind filter in. Luckily I realized something was wrong when I started stirring with my Levercraft WDT tool. That probably wouldn't have turned out very well!
Tomorrow came sooner than expected.

Backflushing with a blind filter filled with coffee is the definition of counterproductive.
