We seem to fall into two camps exemplified by

Hmmmmm. A need for diagnosis presupposes that there must be a problem here, so to finish our patient questionnaire before diagnosing based on only a single symptom, what did the pour look like?
What did the finished cup look like immediately before drinking? Did you hold off from drinking long enough to observe crema persistence?
And most importantly, what did the coffee feel and taste like? Have you had the same coffee come out better, and how was it different?
Or was the idea that we can diagnose based only on the puck? (Seems crazy to me, but who knows, I've never tried...)

Before we dive into the cup, I'm curious if Group W, err 1 , has a consistent experience with similar pucks and defects.

Look like a French Press grind, but that should have been more obvious in the shot

Never seen such a thing except... PF left in the grouphead for half an hour after the shot and coffee dried onto the screen?

I see a thin blonde in your future... You will have a torrid affair, but it will soon end bitterly.

A decaf?
This happens for me sometimes with a decaf. We changed to a different decaf and it stopped happening. Kind of a pain during a busy period to stop and clean up. Sometimes the whole puck would stay on the group, unbroken.

I'm not sure yet what you're driving at, but I hope to be clued in soon. Maybe it is that there is not enough information in a picture of a puck to discern anything other than the poster's ability to use a camera.
As for the pictures I wouldn't drink either one.
