Unlike many, I prefer not to estimate the temperature of my milk by touch as I usually miss the proper range. I don't mind using a thermometer as it keeps my milk based drinks consistent. However, I could never get accustomed to the spring style metal clips that come with the frothing thermometers. They tend to slide around and cannot be centered over the pitcher handle thus obstructing my view of the steam wand. I had been using a prototype bracket made out of a piece of credit/gift card plastic. This eventually warped and cracked. I have since found a thin piece of rigid material that was floating around in my toolbox catch-all drawer. It is flexible and has worked well so far.

What type of material is it?

If I remember correctly, it was a spacer for leveling an appliance. I assume it is a rubber or polymer material with a fiber content. Any type of rigid yet flexible material that will withstand exposure to heat and water will do. Heck, a rubber band will do the job.
