Hello Home-Barista! I'm very excited to share my new project with you all. I've been a user on here for 8 years and found this community to be very high signal and invaluable to anyone's coffee journey.

Light Roast Ventures is the world's first syndicate with a mandate dedicated to investing in startups within the world of specialty coffee.

If you're unaware, a syndicate allows investors to pool their capital together and invest in startup private companies. Unlike a Kickstarter, investors are getting real equity (stock) in the company.

We believe specialty coffee is truly going mainstream. If you pick the right companies at the right time there's the potential to realize tremendous growth. We also believe that coffee enthusiasts are much more likely to recognize a good product and a good coffee company when they see one which is why we're targeting Limited Partners who are already coffee lovers. Coffee founders also benefit from raising money from within the community by not needing to go through the typical Silicon Valley VC gauntlet and by having investors who already understand and love their product (and as investors would naturally become advocates and ambassadors for the company).

We have our first deal live right now for an awesome new company that I know a lot of you are excited about. If you're an accredited investor you can sign up for our syndicate at this LINK and then you'll be invited to see the deal. Signing up to the syndicate is free and zero obligation, but necessary for AngelList to verify that you're an accredited investor. AKA, I can't tell you specifics until I know you're an accredited investor (SEC rules).

Here's a link where you can learn what an accredited investor is and if you qualify LINK. Most accredited investors don't need to do anything to be one.

Happy to answer any questions you might have (that I'm legally allowed to answer)!

Thanks for your time, Alex

So are you just looking for dumb money or would there be the potential for investor involvement in projects if they can add value?

And 8 and 20 on a pre-revenue investment? sheesh.

Investor involvement is strongly encouraged! I've had a ton of contact with our first founder and more than a week of hands on time with the product. My sales pitch to the founder was that we are coffee enthusiasts first and investors second, and as such we can add a lot of value. I'm more than happy to facilitate those connections.

The 8% comes from the $8k taken by AngelList on every SPV they set up. Our allocation can go up however, so if we manage to raise $200k it'll only be 4% and so on.

The 20% carried interest is pretty standard, of course you get your initial money out first, the 20% is only taken on the profit. I've paid the 20% many times myself, and more recently paid as high as 35%! But I hear you. We just launched, if we feel we need to lower it we may. That being said there's been many hours put into making this happen with 0 compensation so far.

Good to know about involvement potential. For those terms I would need to see a higher probability of a successful business rather than taking a flyer on longshot, pre-revenue market innovations. But I will look with an open mind.

Hey no worries, everyone's risk tolerance is different. Pre-seed/Seed stage startup investing is always high risk, but I manage my risk with position sizing. If you ever want to hop on a call or have any other questions feel free to DM.

Just wanted to post a quick update that we've managed to extend the deadline on our first deal another month to better coordinate with a major milestone for the company. We've also been able to secure a larger allocation.

Wish I could say more publicly, but if you're accredited, feel free to DM and I can answer pretty much anything.

Milestone accomplished, or should I say kickstarted

Also wanted to add that if you're already an AngelList user you can see a link directly to the deal HERE.
