Interesting read, and a big problem with anything connecting to the internet. Yes its just a drip coffee machine, but I am guessing not much different, the rush to connect things always seems to overlook security,

this reminds me of Superman 3 where Richard Prior hacks a computer system to dump all the rounded down pennies into a separate account. negligible? perhaps not if you have an army of millions of coffee machines armed to do this.Originally, we wanted to prove the fact that this device could mine cryptocurrency. Considering the CPU and architecture, it is certainly doable, but at a speed of 8MHz, it doesn't make any sense as the produced value of such a miner would be negligible.
