There are tools to make it easier to cut things like that:

So, I have an EK 1.5" circular punch and tried it out on V60 filters. First I tried one layer and, as I suspected, it tore partially instead of cutting neatly. Then I got similar results with two layers. Then when I tried 4 layers (two stacked full filters), I got a neat sharp cut.

For the filters at the bottom you can get Whatman 597 filters in 55mm for a great fit. I'm not sure about the top, yet.

It would be good if I have a big portafilter, but mine is 54mm on the top and 2inches on the bottomCwD wrote:For the filters at the bottom you can gWhatman 597 filters in 55mm

It looks like Whatman Grade 4 filters are available in 50mm, which should fit perfectly!
