I saw a post on Instagram yesterday about this when it was thought to be localized to Portland, now it looks like it's nationwide and goes back to 2016. It'll be interesting if they get to the bottom of this and publish the facts.

I sure hope you update us, David, when more comes out about this. I have to agree with the author it's both creepy and intriguing.

Maybe Daniel just likes his coffee to taste "fresh"?
Who knows how many countless free bags of coffee he may have received over the years...

It's just some dude trying to get free coffee.
Now that the "story is out" the biggest effect it will probably have is that this dude will no longer get free coffee.

Maybe. Watch and see. I guarantee you the best over-caffeinated volunteer private eyes in Vegas are staking that joint out as we speak. Those people don't sleep!
My guess is that this is just the tip of the iceberg. Those letters aren't written by someone who gives a hoot about specialty coffee. But specialty coffee is an insular enough world that word about the grift got out. Sprudge could blow the doors off the greatest conspiracy of the century.
I'm joking. But this story is worth tracking just for the comments on Instagram.

Has anyone else noticed that Lavazza appears to be sponsoring Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee as of 2018.
Every new cafe / restaurant magically has a Lavazza mug or signage shot even if it appears the facility does not serve Lavazza coffee.
Howard Schultz, Chairman of Starbucks, turned down the opportunity to sponsor the show early prior to filming.
