One could say they were ahead of their time with the multifunction kitchen machine.
Kitchen space in many european kitchens comes at a premium with many undercounter cloth washers / dryers in the same room.

I noticed in Europe that a lot of people don't even own a dryer

I can personally attest to that. When I studied in Venice there were seven student groups of 3-4 people with my university, and my group was the only one that had a dryer. Even then we had limited use with it as we did not want to exceed our electricity usage or else we would incur a fee. We limited our heater usage so we could use the dryer more, and it still took ~120 minutes for the clothes to at least become mostly dry. We had to use a clothes rack for the remainder of the drying!

This is a really impressive, deluded effort. I think all that is correct about it is the pressure.

Dairy groups support / promote high school coffee bars offering 5K-6K grants to help pay for espresso machines.

"At a high school in North Dakota, a $5,000 grant from a dairy group helped pay for an espresso machine that makes lattes with about 8 ounces of milk each. The drinks used 530 gallons of milk this year."

Milk consumption has declined by 40 percent since 1975.
