Hello:

I have a look into the "Craziest ..." thread every so often and although many times interesting, find that it has become a bit long at over 3000 entries while sometimes veering into crazy but not enough espresso machine related subjects.

Check this for an example of what I mean:

A HAWE coffee machine in which you press the water hydraulically through the coffee. The cylinder speed can be adjusted and varied as desired by moving a curve on a touch display. The result is a delicious ristretto, espresso, doppio or lungo.

Though more than crazy, the word absurd comes to mind.

If one really wanted to work on lever spring development, that would be a perfect device to test with. I doubt any one has ever done this, but dual springs, stacked springs or progressively wound springs would allow levers to have faster declining pressure profiles which might be an advantage, but just making lots of springs to test would be expensive and annoying. This would let you test things like that trivially easily, though I would have mounted the cylinder directly in line with the group so pressure translates to pressure without having to calculate all the vectors like they do now. But, cool demo for a hydraulic systems vendor. That's not at a coffee show.
