Two interesting things. My Quest had the analogue ET probe mounted where I said it did in my post above. Where ET is marked on page one of this thread.

The Coffeeshrub site shows images of the Quest that don't even have this hole, so the ET analogue thermometer is mounted underneath the tryer. So my model is slightly different than whats shown on the website. They're now out of stock. Maybe Stephen got the last one on hand :)

And in my opinion, the ET location (again marked in page one) isn't pointless at all. My drum rotates clockwise and the bean mass tends to lay closer to the left side, away from the ET spot on the right. If I wanted a ET, I'd want to make sure its not getting beans rolling over it or touching it, which would skew the true temperature a bit. Having the analogue thermometer as close to the beans without touching them would give you a very accurate ET, one I'd use if my thermometer was in Fahrenheit.

In newer machines, the environment thermometer is at roughly the same spot.
From what you have written, your Cooper thermometer is, as you say, outside the drum and is in the spot where the OP has labeled MET and which you denoted as Maximum Environmental Temperature (MET) in the initial(?) Quest thread - Another airhead drums: Initial Impressions of the Quest M3 . The new machines arrive from the factory with a drilled and tapped hole (M8 x 1.25) in the location that the OP has labeled ET and is most definitely inside the drum. The factory blanks it off with a simple M8 capscrew.

The idea behind labeling these various ports, in some standardized fashion, was to enable various users to be comparing temperatures in like locations. If I remember correctly, this was originally proposed by Ed Bourgeois (Farmroast) way back in the original Quest M3 thread.

Simply as an FYI, I have reports from two users of the alternate BT location (BT2) that this location measures about 10-15 F lower than the factory BT location from about middle of the roast onwards.

If they want standardized labels, I suggest they try 1 thru 4.

I got the last one yesterday  . But Chris had thought the stock was ok when I talked with him at scaa, so maybe several sold recently. When mine arrives (guessin Mon.) I plan on doing some probe fishing with different settings of heat/air influence.

I was just at CoffeeShrub late last night, hardcore considering buying an M3, and I see the 110v are out of stock. Nuts.

Just as well, I still not sure I should have been buying it.

Id assume they're going to restock right? Its not like once they're gone, they're gone, right?

I see no reason why they wouldn't continue to offer it. They'll likely have more stock soon, just contact them.

I've been thinking that if you can find a bean mass reading spot where the readings are too far below considered norm. surface readings, there may be a need to improve agitation in those areas.

Like this?

Maybe I did get the last of this batch. I am sure they will stock more since they sold all they have in stock.

EDIT: In case I was misunderstood in my earlier Posts in this Thread this EDIT is as follows. The analog thermometer came in the BT position and I intend to move it to the ET location and use thermocouples in the now empty BT & MET locations.
