The learning curve was steep. I learned very fast that the Hottop responded much slower than the BC roaster due to the BC roaster using gas vs. electric for the Hottop. It took a couple of months to really "feel" the system. The BC-5 has both the ET and BT probes, similar to BC-2. The only difference is that it is a bigger machine that has 8 burners. I can easily roast 5 lb in one batch, and I roasted even 6 lb, but it was a little more challenging. Roasting less than 2.5 Lb per batch is challenging as I still have difficulty following the roast profile I want. I roasted 1 lb, but was not satisfied with how the roast went. I typically follow a declining ROR and want to hit certain temperatures at certain times. This is difficult if I don't have enough coffee beans in the roaster.
