Artisan Math function?

Who knows what the Math function is supposed to do? Artisan explains it like this, "The math plotter is a tool to look for mathematical patterns in profiles."
Uh...hunh?
Can anyone explain this in 'dummies' terms?
The options are Interpolate, Univariate, In(), x^3, and Polyfit.
Anyone know what this means in English? How it's useful to us as roasters?
