About to order an Amprobe TMD-56, I found the Voltcraft PL-125, 2-channel USB datalogger thermometer. Considering it costs EUR70 as compared to 180 for the Amprobe, so I'm thinking, that's 110 euros of greens extra if it would work 8) I can't find much info on it, however, nor any alternative brandings.

Would this thing fully work with Artisan?? Thanks!

Just wanted to give my thanks to this program. Its the perfect tool for my roasting setup and it seems as though it works very well for many others. Successfully logging my air popper roasts with ExTech to my mac. And I have noticed my roasts improving as I can keep much better track of whats going on. A big thanks from a small roaster.

Most probably not. Looks like a USB HID device and Artisan only supports Modbus and pure serial communication (potentially via a serial2USB converter). Confusing, isn't it? Further all of the devices supported by Artisan talk a different protocol. That makes it even more unlikely that Artisan can talk to the PL-125.

Take a look at my blog post "Device Selection" linked by Frans above. Hope this helps to clarify things.

Such amazing timing on that article, just what I needed :) This sheds a great deal of light on a (for me) confusing subject. Thanks!
(went for Voltcraft K204 without logging, cheaper than Amprobe here and four inputs)

Had a little temp measurements summerfest today an Amprobe "eat your heart out" session monotoring lots of stuff on a single espresso machine. Even connected a so called "SCACE device", a more of less high tech state of the art instrument to measure the pissing temp of a machine ;-)

PS a *BIG* thankyou to Marko Luther who called back from Germany during the day to tell me how it's possible to connect all three identical Amprobe devices, each controlling two probes, and have the magnificent Artisan software do all the monitoring. Marko looked into the source code, concluded it should be doable and gave some straightforward pointers on where to enter what to make it work and *click* it did. Amazing.

I think that's spectacular considering Artisan is free software, created, updated and supported by volunteers.
