Zerno grinder - Page 10
Yes, I got mine and I love it. The accessories they sent with it are top notch and the build is great. Very compact but sturdy/hefty and basically all metal. Based on my results after some seasoning, I would say the alignment out of the box is great and I'm making some awesome coffee. I'm not saying there aren't a couple things they could do in future versions but at the price point I'm very satisfied. The key engineer is great to work with and I think they have a great future.jfjj wrote:I see backers are starting to get theirs. The shipping case is awesome. Anyone get theirs yet?

awesome. how's the magnetic chute working out? how's the retention? what burr did you end up going with? curious on the workflow, static, magnetic chute, and burr swapping ease? thanks. still waiting for my silver one.

The magnetic chute works well, you can use it as a knocker and remove retained grounds. It has a pretty strong magnet. There is static in dry conditions including where I am but not an unusual amount. I recommend you use RDT to minimize the static. I measured in and out weight and found retention was less than 0.1 grams. I have a bellows for it that removes remaining retained grounds but I'm not sure it's really necessary. I haven't swapped a burr but it appears pretty easy. You can easily re-zero the grind adjustment mechanism when changing burrs. I got mine with the SSP MP burrs but I also have a set of SSP cast V2 should I want to try them in the future. The SSP MP burrs require some seasoning but I went short on the recommendation and still got excellent results. Maybe they will change some over time as they continue the seasoning. By the way, I think the silver one is going to look awesome.
is there a way to redo zero pt? wanted to install my ssp cast on it.bobR wrote:Yes, I got mine and I love it. The accessories they sent with it are top notch and the build is great. wow this is built like a tank . even the catch cup is super heavy. love it. gotta do some test runs tomorrow. i told myself i would sell this when i get it as i got my p64 already. i don't think this will offer me anything more. but wow the build is crazy good
Thank you for sharing! Which burrs do you use in your Lagom and do you already have a first impression comparing the two?
For the Zerno I am hoping for a taste tendency similar to a Versalab due to the prebreaker.

The zero point is very easy to reset. No problems with the ease of changing burrs.p4lxrich wrote:is there a way to redo zero pt? wanted to install my ssp cast on it.

I look forward to someone doing the first comparison between this grinder against the orbit grinder with the same SSP burrs as they seem to be the closest paralle l with each other.

You're right. This has got to be the easiest grinder to change burrs and zero pt. Pretty amazed so far. Gotta do some shots now. Swapped my mp on the Zerno to csv2. Took three shots so far. I drank the second one. Of course too fine and just nasty. Third shot I gave to my wife and she said it's the best espresso I've ever made. Still skeptical on that one as my wife sometimes my wife gives me feedback that I don't agree on but this was the first time I ever got that comment from her. I'll do more experiments tomorrow for my own taste buds.bobR wrote:The zero point is very easy to reset. No problems with the ease of changing burrs.
Only gripe so far is the magnetic spout. I already knocked it out as I flicked it to use as a knocker. I think I did it wrong tho as side to side might better as I practiced it side to side and it didn't come off. I just have done it front to back when it did come off.
Sound is very different. Louder than my p64 but that not super loud. Just different sound.
Very well made. I cannot find any flaw on the build quality. I'm getting skeptical now that I might not actually let this go. Loving it so far.

You are selling me on the zerno over the P64 clone that I had my eye on. Zerno is more, but only by about 1/3 of the cost of the AF007.
I wonder if the briefcase is only part of the run of 100, or if it will come with all zernos.
At this point they don't ship to Canada. Not sure if I want to deal with the headache of mail forwarding it it.
Looking forward to reading about more zerno experiences.
