Weber Workshops Key Grinder - user experience - Page 97
The entire 'influencer' thing is a hilarious joke to begin with. Who really cares what others think? It's pathetic that so much of the world rides on idiotic social media with the really idiotic FOMO and best thing to do is to avoid all the smack talking that serves little to no real world purpose. So much hype surrounds new (soon to be released) items and most self-destruct soon after, either mechanically or customer service.Ez3000 wrote:Yup. It's the arrogance that's frustrating. And that sounds exactly like Weber support.
They're so proud of their Apple heritage. Seems like the only thing Doug took away from Apple was the design language. Not the customer support and definitely not the "it just works". I emailed Steve Jobs years ago and his office got back to me to fix the issue. I emailed Doug twice...still waiting for him to acknowledge the email.
They were arrogant enough to insist everything was in tolerance with a coffee influencer. The average customer has no chance. Which is why it's worth warning prospective buyers to know the risks here.

With the black plastic wiper removed, do you still see an impression of a swing? There may be no wobbling of the shaft itself.Ez3000 wrote: Thanks. That makes sense. I'll examine the plastic for any compromise and try installing the original part.
Fwiw when stationary (grinder off) it seems like the burr is aligned (even light gap on all sides) so I never attempted to align it per the videos you linked.

Burr wobble looks a bit better but not sure if it's the wiper or tightening the bolt via the gearbox. Regardless, a full number change finer results in the same fast watery spraying shots for light roasts.

Didn't you receive your Key the middle of last month? That spraying will go away.Ez3000 wrote:Burr wobble looks a bit better but not sure if it's the wiper or tightening the bolt via the gearbox. Regardless, a full number change finer results in the same fast watery spraying shots for light roasts.

This isn't just some spraying. This is ZERO correlation between grind setting and shot times for light roasts. I don't think seasoning the burrs more (7-10lbs already) will cause the burrs to suddenly give me the ability dial in a light roast. Also their marketing claims these are pre seasoned burrs.

A couple minor mods - still trying things, but I'm happy for the moment:
First, the bean feeder. I got tired of having RDT'd beans ending up sitting "stuck" on the bean feeder and having to lift up the funnel and check every single time I used the grinder. After trying a couple things, I ended up removing the inner (rotating) part of the bean feeder. The "feed apertures" of the outer part of the bean feeder are fully open. Beans/bean fragments still seem to be kept from flying out of the top - which is all I wanted the bean feeder to do - and beans do not get stuck anymore.
Second, I also got tired of RDT'd beans ending up sitting on the funnel and having to push the beans into the grinder with my finger. I fooled around with a few ideas for a wiper and am still playing around so things are looking ugly, but I'm down to a stuck bean about every fifty grinds. (The cylinder beside the grinder is a mini vacuum cleaner.)

has anyone ever just removed the funnel and feed directly into the bean feeder? i keep think about how much better this grinder would be without the funnel and how i have to lift it everytime to push in the last few beans. my burr alignment is near perfect so i wouldnt want to ruin it.

What are you talking about? Consistency of the grounds depends on burr alignment and speed, the wiper and funnel have nothing to do with it.Ahmad H. wrote:i would advice not to use the magic tumbler and use the funnel with a dosing cup. My consistency issue went away when i switched to the funnel with the regular blind shaker. I switched back and forth with both methods, but i see the wipers and magic tumbler adds more issues that fixes in my experiece.
the grinder is super consistent with the results and the bean feeder is a great idea that helps with the quality of the grind.
