Oh I'm sure there is, and there still are places you can buy 033M burrs from as well. I based my assumption on my recent experience - the parts supplier I got my 233M from ordered 33M burrs from Mazzer expecting 033M, but recevied 233M instead. It could be a happy little surprise to find out they actually ship the Orbit with the new 33M version.drH wrote: Not to rehash the burr issue, but is there a reliable place to order the 233M burrs and know that they won't be mixed up with 033m stock. I like the profile on the SJ-VPro so if I purchase an Orbit I'd probably want to get those burrs.
What makes you say that? Have you in fact tested both burr sets?malling wrote:Also the difference is minuscule none of them are fantastic burrs the 233m is okay but nothing spectacular but slightly better then 033m. It's really just minor improvement.

Yes I tried both, but bare in mind I'm a light roast drinker so for me anything less then cast burrs won't do and work, as turbos simple isn't that good with them and they more less all fall short on brewed.
Both are what you call traditional espresso burrs, with focus on mouthfeel/texture and both are the blending type of burrs that will be your chocolatey flavour on lots of coffee (if the coffee has that in it) it's just that the 233m is a bit more refined, a bit cleaner like SSP HU although not entirely there, but frankly I still pick Major burrs over it and there you have like 8 to pick from where several are of very recent design.

Okay, so they aren't fantastic for your consumption/style. That's fine, I get that. I'm suprised how close to HU these are. If I was to make the choice now, I'd probably pick 233M over HU (and obviously over 033M, these aren't from my experience as close to HU as the 233M) since they're a lot cheaper and just as good. They're also faster than HU, it's a very interesting burr set. I'm still getting to know the new Mazzer burrs, but I also prefer light coffees and these burrs are so far absolutely perfect for me. Not sure how they perform with filter though, they may not be the best choice since these are as you said, and I agree, espresso focused burrs.
Don't give me funny ideas about bigger burrs and the Major, I'm already eyeing the Major V and I'm out of space!

Yes these are close to HU, the main benefit of HU is less burr variance and that it won't go dull as fast a consequence of it being long lasting burr.
Mazzer have upped the game on the burrs but mainly on Major 83mm burrs it's by far their best for lighter roast largely thanks to the ZM grinder that also is responsible for the wast selection of the newer burrs. It's a wonderful grinder but as it cost virtually the same as a 98mm SD grinder it's a bit hard sell. But I think we might get more 83mm SD grinder that will be slightly cheaper.
I really think Mazzer should make a true SD grinder build from scratch and not just something with a bellows on top

Does anyone have any thoughts into the Orbit's motor? I have the Key, and it doesn't have that high pitched whine that's characteristic of the EG-1. Given that the Orbit was a Weber collaboration, do you think that the Orbit has a similar (or even same) motor as the EG-1? Thoughts as to why the motors are different for the conical vs flat? Is it due to the different RPM ranges for conical vs flat? Do flats need more power?
I love the concept of the Orbit - but that sound... Yikes. The Key, and my Monoliths are so much more pleasant.

I've been trying to source a set in the US for myself. La Marzocco doesn't offer them yet, and Chris' Coffee told me they have no plans yet to carry them. Last I knew, they're the two largest importers for Mazzer in the US which sell direct to consumer. Perhaps some smaller parts suppliers might have them or have access to them for special order, but nobody has them listed.drH wrote: Not to rehash the burr issue, but is there a reliable place to order the 233M burrs and know that they won't be mixed up with 033m stock. I know they aren't US based (and sadly, you'll pay twice as much as I paid in Europe), but I'm sure they'll help
