When I did the upgrade I did find it handy to have a can of air around and a roll of paper towels to wipe the coffee oils off the surfaces inside the grinder

My upgrade kit came in the mail today and I was able to put it together within a couple of hours by following along with the videos online. My experience aligning the burrs was fairly pleasant and I'm happy with the result. I kept the 1.0 clamping ring so I wouldn't need to find a new hex key (it'd be nice if a hex key that fits the new-style clamping ring had been included), and I found while it doesn't tighten the burrs all the way closed, it gets them so close that the grinder should work for any real-world setting. I was pretty surprised at how much coffee was caught in the empty space outside of the funnel, a real mound came loose. As for cleaning, I just used an old toothbrush and a damp j-cloth, without any cleaning products as I didn't want to strip away the coffee oil seasoning. I was able to deal with any problem spots with some elbow grease, plus a knife to remove loctite.

One thing I found a bit perplexing is that after tightening the four burr bolts as tight as the video seemed to indicate, I was left with about 5mm of extra bolt protruding under the nuts. This seems especially mysterious to me because every other part of the grinder feels tight and solid, the burrs turn freely even when barely separated, and there's no sign of any other problems. I ordered the upgraded metal bolt covers and they all seem to fit fine, so I'm very confused as to where the extra 5mm of tolerance is coming from, height-wise. It's kind of annoying getting a catch cup under there past those bolts, but it can be done. I'm now wondering whether I should chop off the excess bolt ends, or if I'm missing something...

My 1.0 also has (too-)long bolts.

They can be sliced off with a Dremel tool.

So for those of you who feel you did the alignment well during the upgrade, is it *staying aligned* and do you notice a difference in the cup as a result?

I don't have a lot of time to expound at the moment, but I received the 1.0-->2.0 upgrade kit yesterday and installed it. Installation was relatively quick and easy (also noticed the too-long screws mentioned above). After finishing, I made a couple espressos, and they were incredible. I had some issues with alignment pre-upgrade, but everything seems to have come together very well - extremely tight tolerances and a very consistent, fluffy grind (which was already quite good).

Long story short - upgrade well worth it, and grinder is more amazing than before!!

Beware of the 2.0 for anything BUT espresso... the adjustments can no longer get coarse enough for anything else but espresso.

Interested in why that is? The new shaft is more finely-threaded, but how is different than before as far as overall adjustability? It would just take more turns to get to a coarser grind, no?
